New York City, NY - Sources close to Sean "Puffy" Combs have confirmed that Mr. Combs was arrested this morning in connection with the 1996 shooting of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas, NV. This news comes just two days before the 18th anniversary of Shakur's death.
In a press release dated September 10, 2014, a spokesman for the Las Vegas District Attorney's Office said that there was now sufficient evidence to make an arrest and obtain a conviction for the murder of Mr. Shakur. According to the statement, information given by former Death Row bodyguard Frank Alexander led detectives to witnesses that were able to connect a high profile person to the conspiracy to murder Shakur and an arrest would soon follow. Combs was not named in the statement.
It is widely believed that the shooter in Tupac's murder was Orlando Anderson, a member of the Los Angeles based Crips gang who had been beaten by Shakur and other members of the Death Row entourage a few hours before the shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.
Over the last 18 years several witnesses have came forward and stated that Combs used Anderson and members of the South Side Crips for security when they were in California. Anderson was seen talking to Combs and his associate, Christopher "Biggie Smalls" Wallace, inside the Peterson Automotive Museum on the night that Wallace was gunned down. In 2011, Dexter Isaac admitted to being the shooter in the robbery of Tupac Shakur at Quad Studios in New York. He implicated Combs and manager Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond in the plot and said he carries it out for $2,500 given to him by Rosemond.
In a phone call to the New York City District Attorney's Office our staff was told that they could not confirm or deny that Combs was taken into custody, but did say he was a "person of interest". A call was also made to the Las Vegas District Attorney who stated that a suspect had been taken in for questioning and an arrest was expected. They would not say whether or not the suspect was Combs.
